Cleaning a barbecue grill
- If cleaning a gas grill, turn off the supply of gas or remove the tank.
- Remove the cooking grates and allow them to soak in warm, soapy water.
- Fill a bucket with warm soapy water.
- For gas, remove any briquettes, flame shields, or lava rocks to expose grill burner, for charcoal, take out the coal grate and clean out the insides with a brush.
- Carefully clean out all of the ash and residue from around the burner. Be sure to make sure that the burner is still fastened in place when done.
- Gently scrub the inside of the grill with a wire brush and the warm soapy water.
- After removing any remaining particles from inside, reassemble the grill.
- Wash the metal flame shield with warm soapy water or gently brush off the briquettes/lava rocks.
- After approximately 15 minutes of soaking in the warm soapy water, remove the cooking grates and brush them with a wire brush.
- Using a cooking oil or spray, coat both sides of the cooking grates.
- Place grates back onto grill.
- Give the grill time to air dry before cooking on it.
- Before cooking on grill, allow it to burn for five to ten minutes to ensure that the cleaning residues have burned off.
Tips
- Regularly coating grill surfaces with cooking oil or spray makes clean up much easier.
- When burner jets become clogged, consider replacing the burner for optimum performance or clean them with a soft wire brush.
- Cleaning your grill regularly will keep your grill running longer.
